Message Still dialing in the new set up.........
Installed modified 2871 turbos and I am making a lot more power.....So much that the trans could not hold the new power with the old trans upgrades.
The Z32 trans is amazingly strong and they never tear up gear train parts.
What makes a trans hold more power is relatively simple....
Basically as the power goes up you need more friction surface area and more pressure to hold a greater load.
With American transmissions a ton of people make parts, so it is easy to stack more clutches to hold more power.
With the Z32 trans parts need to be custom made.
We had some more parts made for the Z32 trans and we were able to increase the holding power of the forward clutches another 28% and another 32% holding power on the 3rd gear clutch pack. We also had another servo made for 2nd gear to increase the apply area another 29% over where we already were.

The trans is now holding GREAT, but the converter lock up is now slipping.....I was amazed how high we were able to go with a single disc lock up clutch!
We are now working on getting a triple disc lock up made for the converter ;-)
When we burned up the lock up on the 4500 stall converter we had, We put in an old converter that I had to test the trans upgrades.........Unfortunately the stall speed was only 3000 RPM :-/
Soooo I could not get any good 60fts, but it told us the trans was holding and that was our goal.
We ran the car last Saturday up at Sacramento Raceway and did a 9.97 @ 142.63 with a poor 60 ft.
I just sent the slip to Arnel so you will be able to see the slip soon on his site.
Also ran a 10.37@ 137MPH with no N20 with a horrible 1.87 60 ft. and we were running the low, low N20 timing maps.

Looks like this set up should work really well when we get everything sorted out.

Next year we plan to push the envelope!
We are going to finish putting the rest of the safety equipment in the car and get it certified to run as low as 8.50s.

Right now the car still a full creature comfort Street car with A/C, P/S, stereo with large Amp, ect.
The car is awesome to drive on the street and I never really had any intentions of going farther.
Thanks to Eric and Rich I have the bug to push the envelope again :-)

Plan on still keeping it a street car, but I will be putting the car on a diet and will pull the A/C and amps at a minimum.

Looking forward to the race for 8's!

BTW......MY WIFE THINKS I AM NUTS!!!!

Happy Holidays Everyone and thanks for another great year!!!!!!!
